What your community can use for free

Who this is designed for

  • Public libraries and community resource desks
  • SCORE chapters and volunteer business mentors
  • Community foundations and volunteer centers
  • University entrepreneurship and social-impact programs
  • Grant writers, bookkeepers, accountants, and nonprofit consultants
  • Legal-aid and pro bono programs that cannot accept every inquiry

A clear, responsible boundary

The free resources explain planning and filing steps in plain language. Start Your Cause is not a law firm or filing service, does not submit documents to agencies, and does not charge government fees. People are directed to official agencies to verify current requirements.

No endorsement required. A partner can share an individual checklist, calculator, or guide without formally endorsing the paid product.

Copy-and-paste resource description

Start Your Cause provides free nonprofit startup checklists, a state-requirements guide, a startup-cost calculator, and a Form 1023-EZ screening tool. The site also offers optional paid document-generation support. It does not file documents or replace legal or tax advice.

Partner options

  1. Share a free tool. Link directly to the checklist, cost calculator, state guide, or eligibility screener.
  2. Request a trackable resource link. Learn how many people used the resource without collecting their private questionnaire answers.
  3. Request a co-branded handout. We can prepare a simple digital handout for your organization’s resource page or newsletter.
