Privacy Policy

Start Your Cause uses Supabase for customer accounts and secure questionnaire storage. Payment processing is handled by Stripe. Generated document files are created in your browser.

Information handled by the service

When you create an account, questionnaire answers, nonprofit names, contact information, board information, plans, financial estimates, governance choices, and intake progress are stored in Supabase so you can return from another browser or device. A browser copy may also be retained for faster recovery. Generated document files are assembled in your browser from your saved answers.

If you email us, we receive the information you include in that message. Do not email sensitive personal, financial, medical, or authentication information.

Payments and subscription verification

Stripe processes subscription payments. Start Your Cause does not receive or store your full card number. After checkout, the service sends the Stripe Checkout Session reference to a server function so Stripe can confirm payment and active subscription status. Stripe's own privacy terms govern the information Stripe processes.

Customer accounts

Supabase processes customer email addresses, securely hashed passwords, authentication sessions, and saved nonprofit projects. Start Your Cause does not receive or store plaintext passwords. Row-level security is used so an authenticated customer can access only records tied to that customer’s user ID.

Analytics

The site uses Google Analytics 4 to understand page visits, questionnaire progress, pricing views, checkout activity, and purchases. Analytics may use cookies or similar identifiers and may receive browser, device, and general usage information. Questionnaire answers and generated document contents are not intentionally included in analytics events.

Browser storage

The service uses local or session storage for a working copy of questionnaire progress, checklist progress, authentication sessions, analytics duplicate protection, and subscription verification. Clearing browser data signs the browser out and removes its working copy, but information already saved to the customer account remains in Supabase.

Sharing

Information is shared with service providers only as needed to operate the service, including Stripe for payments, Supabase for authentication and questionnaire storage, Google Analytics for usage analytics, Netlify for hosting and server functions, and email providers for support communications. Start Your Cause does not sell questionnaire answers.

Security and retention

No internet service can guarantee absolute security. Browser-saved information remains until you clear it or use an available clear-data control. Payment and analytics providers retain information under their own policies.

Your choices

You can clear the browser working copy through the service’s clear-data control or browser settings, and you can permanently delete an individual saved nonprofit from the My nonprofits dashboard. To close the full account and delete its remaining information, request account deletion at hello@startyourcause.org. Browser privacy tools may limit analytics.

Changes

This policy may be updated as the service changes. The effective date above will be revised when material changes are published.
